This June, Skills Launchpad Plymouth in partnership from the Career Transition Partnership and Forces Employment Charity, is planning an event for the city's military community. Due to be held at Stonehouse Barracks on Wednesday 21 June, between 2-6pm, the event will host 18 employers and Outset (for those interested in self-employment) to support service leavers and their families to access current and upcoming job vacancies and career opportunities in Plymouth.
In addition to showcasing great job opportunities, this event will also feature three keynote speakers, including Steve Piper.
After being medically discharged from the Royal Marines after more than eight years service, Steve took up an opportunity to spend two weeks on one of Willmott Dixon's construction sites to see if construction was the industry he wanted to get into. It was, and Steve continues to work for the company to this day.
During his time with Willmott Dixon, Steve has been supported financially by the military and his employer to complete an NVQ Level 6 in Construction Site Management and a number of other courses. In addition to this, he has worked his way from a Site Supervisor to an Assistant Build Manager and is on track to progress to Build Manager by the end of this year.
Steve has also been acknowledged for going above and beyond in his work, winning an award for Outstanding Behaviour in Exceptional Circumstances.
Whether you are a service leaver or family member interested in a particular sector, or just want to explore local opportunities in Plymouth, this event could be your first step in planning your future.
