Careers Plymouth

Careers Plymouth is the new name for CSW Group

The local team is made up of Career Development Consultants and Client Contact Administrators who work together to deliver 'transitions work' to support the statutory duties of Plymouth City Council, and Personal Guidance Services that schools, colleges and training providers purchase.

How does it work?

The Career Development Consultants (CDCs) provide targeted support for young people with an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP,) for all of Plymouth's education providers, to help plan transitions to a different education or training provider. As part of this work, our CDCs complete an Options Appraisal Report which gathers the views of young people and their parents/carers on their next steps. The team also supports young people with EHCPs who are seeking employment, education or training and this support can continue until they turn 25.

The team of Client Contact Administrators (CCAs) are the first point of contact in the statutory duties under the Education and Skills Act 2008.  They are required to undertake tracking activities so that as a council we can provide statistical information to the Department for Education in respect of the current activities of young people aged 13-19.

The Client Contact Administrators will keep in touch with you via phone and/or email and they will signpost you to other services where relevant and based on your needs.

Why are Careers Plymouth contacting me?

Our Career Development Consultants may be in contact if you have an EHCP to offer support. The team may also arrange a meeting through your school.

If you are the parent/carer of a young person with an EHCP the team may also be in touch to give information, advice and guidance on the Post 16 education, employment or training options.

If Careers Plymouth has been told that a young person is not currently in employment, education or training, the Client Contact Administrators will call to offer support. They will check in with you regularly and can signpost you to other services where relevant. They will also check in with you if we are not sure what you are currently doing and offer support to you as required in seeking employment, education or training.

Every year the Careers Plymouth team contact young people, normally by phone, who have completed Year 11 or 12 to see whether they are continuing in education, training or employment and whether they need any support to access education or employment. If the team can’t reach you by phone, you may receive an email or letter.

Personal Guidance Services

The Careers Plymouth offers personal guidance services that schools, colleges and training providers can purchase.

Through this work, the team support young people to better understand their individual needs and help them navigate their education and career options. They support students to reflect on their ideas, interests, skills and personal motivations to make more informed choices about potential educational options and career paths.
