Domiciliary Care in Plymouth
Domiciliary care or Home Care is a popular alternative to residential and nursing care. Domiciliary care enables those with a care need (through illness, long-term medical issues or old age) to remain in their own home and receive the care they require. The advantage of homecare is, it is carried out in a person’s own home, meaning any long stays in a hospital can be avoided and they are in the comfort of their own home.
Care can be offered in many capacities – and the length and frequency of visits will depend on individual circumstances and care needs. Some only need domiciliary care for short periods, whilst others need long-term care.
There are two types of Domiciliary Care roles in the city. Plymouth providers offer walking roles and driver roles, so therefore a full driving license is not always necessary. Our Health and Social Care Coordinators are connected with 20+ providers who all have vacancies right now, so get in touch to find out more and be connected with employers.
The role requires you to work in a person-centred manner, ensure all needs of the residents/clients are met, and ensure all care plans are monitored and up to date. As well as observing, monitoring and recording the health and medical information of those in your care. Responsibilities include working with patients, relatives and carers, assisting with clinical duties, personal care including infection prevention and control, food prep and assisting with meals, personal hygiene and overall reassurance, comfort and safety. Considering, physical, mental, social and spiritual needs of the individuals in your care, working holistically to provide the best care to meet their needs and wishes.

Nursing Associates programme
Nursing associates work with healthcare support workers and support registered nurses across the four fields of nursing to provide high-quality, safe, person-centred care in a wide range of health and care settings across the lifespan. The Nursing associate programmes are a fully funded alternative to a full-time Nursing Degree.
The programmes consist of a two-year foundation degree which includes 2300 hours in total with a minimum of 1150 hours required in clinical practice placements. Once qualified, Nursing Associates may work across a wide range of healthcare settings and clinical areas, including acute or community hospitals, community nursing teams and GP practices.
Entry requirement vary, Level 3 qualifications alongside Maths and English is desirable for most programmes in the city. However, there is an alternative programme where only a Level 2 is required – to find out more about the entry requirements, please get in touch.
