Skills Launchpad Plymouth is running two dedicated sessions to tie in with National Older Workers Week, helping local people aged over 50 to take advantage of the opportunities available in the city, including job and volunteering opportunities, training and education, benefits and community support.
Skills Launchpad Plymouth is Plymouth City Council’s free skills service which offers free online resources or access to personalised 1:1 support to connect residents with local opportunities for skills, training, education, careers, and jobs.
Whilst this support includes help for young people, education leavers, and job-seekers, the service is inclusive in its support for adults in employment who are looking to upskill, change careers, access a new opportunity, or for those who want to rebuild their confidence in order to return to work.
Two information sessions will be held next week on Monday 25 and Tuesday 26 November, from 12pm to 2pm in the city centre, with attendees from local organisations on hand to help:
Representatives from the Job Centre Plymouth, Clarion Futures and Citizens Advice Plymouth can support with benefits and in-work support
Adult education provider On Course South West
Sector skills partnerships for health and social care (Caring Plymouth), tourism, hospitality and retail (Welcoming Plymouth), construction and the built environment (Building Plymouth) for volunteering, employment and training support
The National Careers Service for free impartial careers advice and guidance
Community Builders.
Councillor Sally Cresswell, Cabinet Member for Education, Skills and Apprenticeships said: “Our themed National Older Workers Week sessions are about celebrating the wealth of skills and experiences that older adults bring to the workplace and ensuring adults in the city are aware of the free support that’s available to them.
“Professionals are on hand to help with navigating the options whether you are returning to work, developing your skills, improving your CV, or needing support to balance work with personal commitments or health needs. We hope these sessions will be a support to local people and contribute to our efforts to build a thriving local economy.”
For employers, Older Workers Week is a reminder of the value of lived and professional experiences with diverse teams proven to drive greater creativity and effectiveness.
