Free energy advice and support available to help Devon households stay warm and well

Updated: Jul 21

Families and individuals across Devon are being encouraged to take advantage of a free service designed to help them stay warm, reduce energy bills, and access vital support during challenging times.

Better Housing Better Health (BHBH), a not-for-profit project run by the National Energy Foundation, is working to support residents who are living in or at risk of fuel poverty. The service is free of charge and open to all who are struggling to keep warm at home.

Lisa, a member of the BHBH team, explains: “We understand the physical and mental effects of living in a cold home, and we feel it is more important than ever to ensure everyone is living in a warm and happy household.”

BHBH offers a free helpline where trained advisors provide practical tips on staying warm, help residents register for the Priority Services Register, and guide them through applications for grants and funding to improve home energy efficiency.

As part of the service, residents can also benefit from free home energy visits. During these visits, advisors can install small energy-saving items such as LED light bulbs, draught-proofing, radiator foil, and thermal-lined curtains, while also offering tailored advice on managing bills and heating systems.

In addition, BHBH can help eligible households access financial support schemes such as:

  • Warm Home Discount – £150 off energy bills

  • ECO Funding – for heating system upgrades and insulation

All support is confidential, personalised, and designed to make homes warmer, healthier, and more affordable to run.
