When Doaa first approached Skills Launchpad Plymouth, our Coordinator said it was clear that Doaa was hugely proactive and keen to embrace opportunities that come her way.
Keen to break down barriers to daily life, Doaa was determined to be as proactive as possible and grasp opportunities. During her time with Skills Launchpad Plymouth, she has done just that!
From being on Sovereign Housing's Youth Panel, winning the award for Trailblazer at the DBI Awards, and being a book as part of the Human Library, Doaa has made the absolute best of every opportunity that has come her way.
From engaging with Skills Launchpad Plymouth, she was able to reach out to other organisations, including Colebrook Southwest and Real Ideas Organisation. She started to volunteer for Unify Plymouth project and was a regular at St Budeaux and Barne Barton wellbeing hub.
For Skills Launchpad Plymouth, it was clear to see that Doaa takes huge pride in who she is, and is prepared to engage with anyone in positive conversation around stigma, discrimination and inclusion.
Most recently, Doaa has been nominated for and won our Community Champion Award! She was nominated for being an extremely capable and passionate person, communicates her cause brilliantly, and is developing herself as an advocate and speaker for positive change.
Here’s what Doaa shared:
“As a wheelchair user, it is hard to get people to see past the chair. James did just that”
“I have found James incredible. He has helped me to network and grab opportunities.”
“James is my mentor and gives me ideas. I don’t know where I would be without his support”
