Today is World Mental Health Day. There are little things we can all do to look after our mental wellbeing, and these can make a big difference to how we feel – we need to find what works for us.
Evidence suggests there are five steps we can incorporate into our daily lives can improve our mental health and wellbeing:
Connect with other people: being social means different things for different people. Messages, phone calls, face to face – human connections matter.
Be physically active: studies show that being active can help you sleep better, have happier moods, and reduce feelings of stress, anxiety and racing thoughts.
Learn new skills: taking up a hobby or learning a new skill can be both fun and useful.
Give to others: studies have shown that people who help others are more likely to rate themselves as happy.
Take notice: be mindful of how you’re feeling and taking time to pay attention to the present moment.
