Emma Hewitt, Skills Lead at Plymouth City Council has made the final three short-list in consideration of the Inspirational Leader Award as part of the prestigious West Country Women Awards 2022. Taking place this Thursday night at the Crowne Plaza, the Grand Final awards ceremony will celebrate the top achievements and triumphs of women across the region from all communities.
Sponsored by WWA, the Inspirational Leader Award category recognises those who have stepped up to challenges whilst inspiring others around them. Emma was nominated, twice, for her leadership of the Building Plymouth skills partnership with the construction industry, the vision for Skills Launchpad Plymouth (which has already been recognised with Innovation Awards locally and regionally), and as a volunteer, for leading The Road to Mayflower project as part of the Mayflower400 commemorations.
Emma was nominated for this award by David Bayliss, Regional Director at Stride Treglown and Building Plymouth Chair who said:
“Emma continuously demonstrates all of the qualities that an inspirational leader portrays by being authentic, passionate, knowledgeable, able to engage people in a personable way, Emma has great self-awareness and a clear set of underlying values, and she is also very resilient in a political local authority arena.”
Steve Warren-Brown, Managing Director of YGS Landscapes also submitted a nomination and said: “Having worked with Emma on numerous projects over the last 5 years, I believe her nomination is hugely deserved. Her enthusiasm, tenacity, commitment and passion is second to none and she has been the major driving force behind Building Plymouth, the Road to Mayflower and Skills Launchpad Plymouth. I have witnessed the hours she puts in to get things done, and everything she is involved with, ‘GETS DONE’. Not only is she an inspiration to so many, but she is also a credit to the Council and her innovation and drive will ensure that she will keep delivering future projects with the success and impact her other projects have enjoyed to date. If anyone can do it, it’s Emma Hewitt!!”
Heading towards the Grand Final Awards ceremony, Emma Hewitt said:
“I feel really excited and am truly honoured to be recognised in this category alongside so many inspirational women from across the region. Huge thank you to David and Steve for their surprise nominations and to those who kindly provided supporting testimonials. I am delighted that my hard work and passion for making a difference is being recognised, however I cannot achieve these goals alone and am really thankful for my amazing Skills team, supportive colleagues, partners and stakeholders who believe and positively support the bold missions and my innovative ideas to drive change and deliver impact.”
