This March, Plymouth residents will once again have the rare opportunity to step inside some of the city’s most significant construction and development projects. As part of Building Plymouth Open Sites Week 2026, local contractors, consultants, architects and educators are throwing open their doors to mark National Careers Week in an inspiring and interactive way.

Across one exciting week, fifteen major ‘live’ sites and specialist offices will welcome visitors for exclusive behind‑the‑scenes tours. From state-of-the-art healthcare facilities and innovative housing projects to major regeneration schemes, infrastructure works and heritage-focused developments, the programme showcases the scale and diversity of construction happening across Plymouth.

Alongside site visits, several built environment consultancies will open their studios, giving people the chance to see how projects are imagined, designed, managed and delivered—from concept to completion. City College Plymouth, in partnership with Kier Construction, will also host visits to its cutting-edge training facility, offering a first-hand look at the skills and technology shaping the industry’s future workforce.

Aimed at young people exploring their next steps, those considering a career change, job seekers and curious local residents, Open Sites Week shines a spotlight on the broad range of roles available across construction and the built environment. Visitors will discover how buildings and infrastructure come together and meet the professionals—from engineers and designers to project managers and tradespeople—who make it all happen.

Morven Maclean, Construction Coordinator for Building Plymouth, said: “Building Plymouth Open Sites Week is one of our signature annual events, and we are thrilled to be opening up so many fascinating projects. This week highlights not only the wide range of trades and on‑site roles, but also the technical and consultancy opportunities available across the sector. Through this year’s programme, we are delighted to showcase some of the city’s major infrastructure projects, including the new accident and emergency department at Derriford Hospital, the 10 Dock development with Babcock, and the city centre regeneration work. This week plays a vital role in bringing construction to life!”
