This week at Skills Launchpad Plymouth - w/c 12 January

We’re back after the festive break with plenty of opportunities to help you make changes and learn new skills this January! To save you scrolling through multiple posts, here’s a quick breakdown of what’s on and when.

 

Monday to Friday, 10am to 3pm

Youth Hub appointments (for those aged 16 to 24)

 

  • Our friendly Youth Hub Coordinators will be joined by DWP Work Coaches every day to offer young people pre-booked appointments to discuss their options for skills, training, education, careers and jobs here in Plymouth.


  • They will also be joined on Tuesday by Charlotte from the Virtual School who is offering dedicated support to care leavers, and Hollie from The King's Trust on Wednesday and Friday to explore the latest programmes around hair and beauty, Teams, Enterprise.


  • This Thursday, we’re hosting a Core Skills workshop in partnership with On Course Southwest, running from 10am to 12noon. It’s perfect for anyone looking to refresh or build essential skills. Get expert advice on maths, English, and digital courses, explore learning options tailored to your goals, and discover pathways to further training and qualifications. No booking needed—just drop in!


Monday (open to anyone 16+), 10am to 3pm

Caring Plymouth Drop-in Session

 

  • Mondays are our dedicated day for anyone interested in opportunities in the health and social care, and childcare sectors. This week’s session highlight career opportunities in childcare, early years education, and apprenticeships. We’re also pleased to welcome Sarah Cotter from PCC Early Years, who will share expert insights into childminding and the wider childcare sector. 


Tuesday (open to anyone 16+), 10am to 3pm

Building Plymouth Drop-in Session

 

  • Tuesdays are dedicated to supporting those interested in careers in construction and the built environment. This week, we’ll be joined by representatives from The Focus Training Group, who will be on hand to offer advice and guidance on getting job-ready for Plymouth’s construction sector. With a wide range of roles available in construction, this is a fantastic opportunity to receive one-to-one support and gain insights from experienced professionals. No booking needed—just drop in between 10am and 1pm.


  • Aged 19+? Ian from the National Careers Service is also available on Tuesdays providing pre-booked appointments for help with developing CVs, cover letters, and general careers advice.


Thursday (support for adults aged 25+), 10am to 3pm

Adult Hub Drop-in Session

 

  • This session is for job seekers, career changers, those at risk of redundancy, higher education graduates and the Armed Forces community, and offers dedicated 1:1 time with our coordinator Victoria to discuss your next move. Victoria can advise on all the latest skills, training, careers and job opportunities for adults here in Plymouth, and help connect you with our network of partners.

  • Fridays are our dedicated day for anyone interested in opportunities in Plymouth's visitor economy sectors - hospitality, retail and tourism. Drop in to meet with Rhianne to explore current vacancies in the city, as well as the latest skills and training available.

Don’t Miss: Building Plymouth’s Early Careers Fair

 

This Saturday, from 10am to 2pm at Plymouth Argyle’s Home Park, Building Plymouth and the Plymouth Manufacturers’ Group (PMG) are teaming up for a major careers showcase.

 

Meet a wide range of leading construction and manufacturing employers and explore apprenticeship, graduate, and wider job opportunities. Perfect for young people, graduates, and adults considering a career change—discover exciting roles for 2026 and 2027 starts!
