Today, Skills Launchpad Plymouth, on behalf of Plymouth City Council, took part in the British Forces Resettlement Service (BFRS) Careers Event at the Crowne Plaza. This vibrant event brought together members of the local Armed Forces community, those transitioning from service and working-age veterans, with a wealth of career and training opportunities across multiple industries.

As a Gold-accredited Armed Forces Covenant employer, Plymouth City Council continues to lead by example in supporting service leavers and their families. Our presence at the event was more than symbolic—it was a hands-on demonstration of our commitment to recognising the unique skills and experiences of those who have served.

Highlights from the event:

  • Tailored support: Victoria Mead, Skills and Workforce Coordinator at Skills Launchpad Plymouth, provided one-to-one guidance to attendees, helping them navigate their next steps with confidence.

  • Career pathways: Spencer Dawes from the Council’s Human Resources and Organisational Development team showcased the wide range of roles available within the Council, reinforcing our pledge to offer guaranteed interviews to eligible service leavers.

  • Networking and upskilling: Attendees explored thousands of job opportunities, connected with employers, and accessed training providers to support their transition into civilian careers.

  • Entrepreneurial inspiration: The event also encouraged attendees to consider self-employment, with resources and advice available to spark new ventures.

This collaborative effort reflects the strength of local partnerships in bridging military service and meaningful civilian employment. By actively supporting Armed Forces leavers and veterans, we’re not only honouring their service - we’re also investing in the future of Plymouth’s workforce.

Plymouth City Council’s Gold Covenant status isn’t just a badge, it’s a promise. A promise to retain and attract talent, to promote equality, and to ensure that Plymouth remains a city where Armed Forces families can thrive.
