Open One Door campaign

Helping Plymouth’s young jobseekers get a foot in the door with local employers

A new city-wide campaign is encouraging Plymouth employers to create opportunities for young jobseekers aged 16 to 24 who are looking to build skills, gain experience and move into work.

Launched by Plymouth City Council, Plymouth Jobcentre Plus, the Devon Chamber of Commerce and the Devon and Cornwall Training Provider Network, Open One Door supports the UK Government’s Youth Guarantee investment, designed to tackle youth unemployment and economic activity by ensuring every young person has access to earn or learn.

The local ask to businesses is simple: make a commitment over the next 12 months to offer one opportunity to a young jobseeker.

Whether it's creating a job opportunity, recruiting an apprentice, hosting a work experience placement, or offering another route into or towards work, every door opened can make a difference, while also unlocking financial incentives for eligible businesses.

With around 1,800 young people in Plymouth currently actively seeking work, training or other opportunities, the campaign aims to connect local employers with talented young people who are ready and willing to work, while helping businesses access future talent and grow their workforce.

One opportunity. One young person. One future changed.
