Supported Internship Opportunities at Discovery College

A Supported Internship offers 16 to 24-year-olds with an education health care plan (EHCP) the opportunity to work towards an accredited qualification(s) and take part in a work placement opportunity with the support from an expert job coach. This study programme can last between six months to a year, depending on the individual's progress and future plans.

A Supported Internship will:

  • help you to gain skills for your work placement with an employer

  • build your confidence

  • help you to gain qualifications such as English and maths

  • build experience for your CV.

At Discovery College, there are two pathways:

Each intern will complete a sector focused Supported Internship, which means that alongside time spent in college where they are supported to complete a Level 1 Certificate in Skills in Employment, Training and Personal Development, they also spend three days a week working in a sport and leisure, or hospitality setting, to gain valuable work experience and skills.

Employers currently supporting the Supported Internships in partnership with Discovery College are, China Fleet Country Club, Plymouth Active Leisure and YMCA Plymouth.
