The team at Young Devon has free training for 16 to 25-year-olds starting from the week of Monday 26 September that will help anyone looking to develop their confidence or learn some new skills.
Independent Life Skills is an Entry Level 3 course that Young Devon runs on Thursdays and Fridays. It includes modules such as Living in the Community, Self-Advocacy and Environmental Issues. It is also a means of getting some prior learning to work as a base point for progression for WBL/Functional Skills.
This course offers an excellent step for young people thinking about getting back into education if they have been out of learning for a while and are possibly feeling anxious about taking this step. All parts of it work towards building up self-confidence and social confidence, whilst helping you work towards your own personal goals.
If you've completed independent life skills or something similar before, then the Work-based Learning course is the next step, which focuses on getting ready to start work.
The Work-based Learning course covers practising valuable interview and job application skills and techniques, completing modules around making choices, personal relationships, skills for employability and teamwork, building a career portfolio & completing a CV. Alongside the course, learners can also sit their functional skills in maths and English.
Sessions are delivered face–to–face from the Young Devon office on Mutley Plain and travel on public transport can be reimbursed.
Over 12 weeks, from 10am to 3pm, Work-based Learning runs Mondays to Wednesdays, and Independent Life Skills runs on Thursdays and Fridays.
