Skills courses starting soon with Young Devon

The team at Young Devon have free training for 16 to 25-year-olds starting from the week of Monday 30 May that will help anyone looking to develop their confidence or learn some new skills.

The independent life skills course is an excellent step for young people thinking about getting back into education if they have been out of learning for a while and are possibly feeling anxious about taking this step.

This course covers modules such as Self Advocacy, the Law, the Environment, Personal Health and living in the community; all working towards building up confidence in themselves and social situations, and pursuing their own personal goals.

If you've completed independent life skills or something similar before, then the work-based learning course is the next step, which focuses on getting ready to start work. This covers practising valuable interview and job application skills and techniques, completing modules around making choices, personal relationships, skills for employability and teamwork, building a career portfolio & completing a CV. Alongside the work-based learning course, our learners can also sit their functional skills in maths and English.

Sessions are delivered face–to–face from the Young Devon office on Mutley Plain.

The work-based learning course runs Monday to Wednesday and the independent life skills course runs on Thursdays and Fridays over 12 weeks.

To get involved email thechangeacademy@youngdevon.org or speak to our Youth Hub Coordinator by dropping into Skills Launchpad Plymouth on the first floor of Barclays in the city centre on a Thursday between 12-3pm, or by texting 07876 396982.
