The team at Running Deer C.I.C, (a Devon-based not-for-profit Community Interest Company) are all about providing opportunities for young people and adults at risk of social exclusion and communities living in rural isolation without easy access to education, employment, or training - and they are accepting applications for their autumn and winter courses!
The six-week Countryside Skills courses give learners the chance to gain new knowledge, practical skills, and accredited qualifications related to countryside management.
Courses are free of charge to workers from vulnerable sectors such as tourism, retail, food,
and farming who have been displaced by COVID-19; young people aged 18-24 who are no longer in education employment or training; people aged 25+ who have been unemployed and actively seeking work for more than 12 months; struggling with other barriers to work such as living in rural isolation, mental or physical health difficulties, or part of a resettlement programme from the armed services.
The courses are funded by Devon County Council’s Natural Capital Challenge Fund, which aims to support the recovery of the economy of Devon after COVID-19 by creating employment and training opportunities which
improve the natural environment.
Joanna Winterburn, Managing Director of Running Deer C.I.C said “This Nature Capital Challenge
Fund project delivers a comprehensive programme of training courses that will reduce the skills
gap for people facing challenges and barriers to work, including those displaced by the pandemic.
Students will be able to learn practical skills in countryside management and also gain
qualifications including First aid in the workplace (FAA) Level 3, and Chainsaw License to Practice
974 & 976.”
Upcoming course dates are:
20 September to 28 October 2022
15 November to 21 December 2022
10 January to 17 February 2022
