Presentation of the Council’s Gold Award Employer Recognition

Three colleagues working closely with the Armed Forces community as well as supporting veterans employed by the local authority were invited to represent at the Employer Recognition Scheme Gold Awards ceremony held at RM Stonehouse Barracks on 23 November.

Accepting the Gold Award from Rear Admiral Ivan Finn on behalf of Plymouth City Council, Alan Knott, Policy and Intelligence Advisor said: “I am absolutely delighted and proud that Plymouth City Council has received this recognition for the crucial work it does in supporting reservists, veterans, cadet force adult volunteers, and family members of service personnel. As a city, we are extremely honoured to have a long and distinguished military history, and we are proud of the support we offer members of the armed forces, veterans, and cadets not only within the council but across the city. Receiving the Armed Forces Covenant Employer Recognition Scheme 2023 Gold Award is a fantastic achievement and is a testament to the hard work of all those across Plymouth City Council who go above and beyond to meet our Armed Forces Covenant commitments.”

Emma Hewitt, Skills Lead added: “It was an absolute privilege to be part of this ceremony. I am delighted that through working closely with Plymouth’s Armed Forces Covenant, our Skills work supporting veterans, military service leavers and their families to transition into local employment has played its part in securing Gold recognition, their highest badge of honour.”

Supporting the accreditation submission successfully led by Annie Walker, HR Culture Partner, Chris Squire, Service Director, HROD said: “This is a fantastic achievement for Plymouth City Council, our staff and citizens. We have been recognised for the outstanding support that we provide to our colleagues who are serving or who have served in our armed forces, as well as to their families. Armed forces personnel, veterans and their families have highly valuable skills that are good for the work of the council and our city and we are proud to be working with and supporting current and future colleagues who have military experience.”
