A huge congratulations to Jude King for being Highly Commended for The Ron Simmonds Construction Trade Apprentice of the Year Award, 2026.
Jude is currently completing his Carpentry apprenticeship with Upward Loft Solutions and Skills Group Ltd. Since starting his training, he has progressed from a Level 1 Study Programme to a Level 2 apprenticeship, while also completing additional qualifications including Asbestos training and a Level 2 Skills for Employment and Personal Development course.
Upon receiving the award, Jude said “I am extremely happy to have been Highly Commended for this award, and even to have been nominated in the first place. Thank you to everyone who nominated me and to all who have supported me throughout my apprenticeship.”
Over the past two years, Jude has demonstrated consistent growth and achievement across every aspect of his apprenticeship. His strong work ethic is reflected in his excellent timekeeping, reliability, and willingness to take on new or unfamiliar tasks with a positive and proactive attitude. He approaches each job with enthusiasm and a genuine desire to improve his technical skills.
One of Jude’s greatest strengths is his ability to complete work to a high standard with minimal supervision. When entrusted with a task, he delivers it precisely as required and often exceeds expectations in terms of accuracy and finish. This level of independence has enabled him to take on increasingly complex responsibilities, earning the trust of his colleagues and trainers.
Jude is also known for his commitment to supporting others. He consistently volunteers to help during busy periods, readily tries new tasks, and responds quickly when priorities shift. His adaptability and sense of responsibility have made him a dependable and highly valued part of the team.
In both his workplace and training environment, Jude stands out as one of the most committed and capable learners. His professionalism, reliability, and consistently strong performance set a positive example for others. He frequently seeks feedback and embraces challenges, demonstrating a genuine desire to succeed. Despite receiving Learning Support Funding (LSF), he has shown remarkable independence and resilience, overcoming barriers with determination and maturity.
Jude’s positive attitude extends beyond his technical work. He is known for supporting his peers—whether helping others understand tasks, demonstrating leadership on site, or even picking up fellow apprentices to ensure they get to college on time. His actions show a commitment not only to his own success but to the progress of those around him.
Throughout his training, Jude has approached every opportunity with energy and pride. His reliability, strong work ethic, and ability to inspire others make him an exceptional representative of the construction and built environment sector. Combined with his resilience and passion for the trade, it is clear why he has been recognised as Highly Commended for this award.
