Plymouth City Council held a highly successful two‑session CV and application workshop today at Skills Launchpad Plymouth, supporting both adults and young people to strengthen their employability skills and confidence.
The morning session, delivered in partnership with the Adult Hub, welcomed a diverse group of attendees including graduates, members of the Armed Forces community, individuals affected by redundancy, and those exploring new career pathways. The session was extremely engaging and interactive, with key messages shared around the recruitment process, essential application criteria, and how to present evidence effectively.
Attendees received practical guidance on CV content, cover letter structure, and application support, alongside useful tips, facts, and insights into what employers are really looking for. The session encouraged open discussion, peer support, and shared learning, creating a supportive environment where participants were able to reflect on their experiences and learn from one another.
The afternoon session focused on Youth Hub members and took a more hands‑on approach. Young people explored their transferable and technical skills, learning how experiences from education, hobbies, and everyday activities can be confidently translated into strong CVs and cover letters. The session generated excellent engagement, with participants actively working through examples and gaining a clearer understanding of how their skills align with future employment opportunities.
Overall, the event was well attended and highlighted the continued demand for practical, accessible employability support across Plymouth. The positive feedback and high level of participation demonstrated the value of delivering tailored sessions that meet people where they are in their career journey. One person commented, "I really enjoyed the Plymouth City Council CV and Application workshop, everyone was very welcoming and helped me a lot in constructing a brand new and better CV"
