Celebrating National Manufacturing Day

National Manufacturing Day is an opportunity to celebrate one of Plymouth's most important industries and shine a spotlight on the wide range of careers, skills and pathways that manufacturing has to offer.

Manufacturing plays a vital role in Plymouth's economy, with the city home to a number of globally recognised companies and a thriving network of innovative businesses. The sector provides just over 13% of Plymouth's jobs and continues to create rewarding careers across engineering, technology, production, logistics, quality assurance and business support.

Plymouth's manufacturing sector is supported by the Plymouth Manufacturers' Group (PMG), a network of more than 50 local manufacturing businesses working together to share expertise, encourage innovation and support the growth of the industry. Representing companies from a range of specialist sectors, PMG helps raise awareness of manufacturing careers, supports skills development and promotes Plymouth as a leading manufacturing city.

National Manufacturing Day highlights the diversity of the sector and the many routes available to people at all stages of their careers. Whether you're considering your next step after education, looking for an apprenticeship, exploring opportunities to develop new skills or thinking about a career change, manufacturing offers pathways into a wide range of skilled roles across engineering, technology, production, logistics and business support.

As part of this year's celebrations, Plymouth manufacturer Rittal-CSM is opening its factory doors virtually on its LinkedIn page here. Throughout the week, the company will be showcasing the people, skills and hard work that help bring its products to life every day. Through virtual conversations with employees, viewers can gain an insight into the teamwork, innovation and technology behind modern manufacturing, and discover what makes the sector such an exciting place to work.
