Case study: Leanne

Leanne, 42, first engaged with Skills Launchpad Plymouth in July 2021 when she decided she wanted to close her skills gaps so that she could change direction in her career.

She dropped into Barclays and completed a skills action plan with our Adult Hub Coordinator, helping to identify which sectors she was interested in and her transferable skills and where she had any skills gaps.

The skills assessment identified that Leanne was interested in business admin roles and that she needed to tweak her CV and further her skills and learning. It was agreed, that the first priority, was to develop some of her skills within this sector and she enrolled on an online Business Administration course with On Course South West, to make sure she was equipping herself with some of the essential skills needed to enable her to move into this sector of work.

Leanne completed this course and achieved a Level 2 certificate in Business Administration as well as also completing a basic IT course to enhance her existing skills. These courses provided her with the skills she needed to move forward with applying for jobs.

In addition to completing her qualifications, Leanne was also supported by the National Careers Service team who supported her to update her CV. The National Careers Advisor gave Leanne confidence in her existing skillset and encouraged her to move forward with her goal of gaining employment within the business administration sector.

Leanne said: “The Skills Launchpad Plymouth team pointed me in the right direction of courses that have been available, particularly the free courses which are perfect when you are not always in the position to pay. I have been able to get impartial careers advice and guidance, and feel more confident knowing that they are on hand to offer advice at any time if and when I need it in the future.”
