Building Plymouth sessions continue to open doors to construction careers

Building Plymouth's jobs and training sessions continue to provide valuable opportunities for people looking to start or progress a career in construction. Held at Skills Launchpad Plymouth, these sessions connect visitors with employers, training providers and support organisations from across the sector.

Since May, we've welcomed a variety of organisations to our Tuesday sector drop-in sessions, giving visitors the chance to explore career pathways, discover training options, receive employability advice and connect directly with industry professionals.

Support organisations including Shekinah and Clarion Futures have provided valuable guidance on training programmes, employability support and construction bootcamps. These sessions have been particularly beneficial for people looking to build confidence, develop skills or return to education, training or employment.

We've also welcomed training providers such as Skills Group, who shared information on apprenticeships, qualifications and routes into construction, helping visitors better understand the pathways available across the industry.

A range of employers, including JEM Scaffolding, Ian Williams, Classic Builders, The Plym Group, AECOM and Vistry, have joined us to showcase the breadth of careers available within construction. From hands-on trades and housebuilding to engineering, design, project management and professional services, these sessions have highlighted the diverse range of roles available across an industry that offers more than 180 career pathways.

The events have also produced some fantastic outcomes. Customers have progressed to job trials with both JEM Scaffolding and The Plym Group, while Vistry supported visitors by sharing CVs across their subcontractor network to help identify further employment prospects. Employers have also offered valuable feedback on applications and recruitment processes, helping us to better support customers on their journey into work.

One of the greatest strengths of these sessions is the opportunity to meet industry representatives face-to-face. A simple conversation can lead to new connections, increased confidence and a clearer understanding of the steps needed to achieve a career goal.

We're incredibly grateful to every employer, training provider and support organisation that has supported Building Plymouth's jobs and training sessions over recent months. Their willingness to share knowledge, advice and insight continues to make a positive difference to local people looking to build a future in construction.
