Bringing Construction Opportunities to the Community

Throughout February, we were proud to welcome Building Plymouth and their members into Skills Launchpad Plymouth as they delivered a series of construction‑focused employer and partner drop‑in sessions. These events created valuable opportunities for local people to engage directly with industry professionals and explore the diverse career and training pathways available across the construction sector.

The sessions brought a real buzz to the Launchpad, with visitors using the opportunity to explore the construction sector in a relaxed and friendly environment. Many people came simply to gather information, while others arrived with clear goals and were able to access tailored support to help them move forward. The drop‑ins offered something for everyone—whether it was a first introduction to the industry or guidance on taking the next step toward training or employment.

We were delighted to welcome a diverse group of partners throughout the month, including:

  • Clarion Futures

  • Skills Group

  • The Focus Training Group

  • National Careers Service

  • Gwella Contracting Services

Each organisation contributed their own specialist knowledge, helping visitors understand the wide variety of routes into construction. From discussing upcoming apprenticeships and helping people map out training options, through to sharing details of local vacancies and offering practical careers advice, their involvement made the sessions incredibly beneficial for anyone exploring a construction career.

Gareth, Building Plymouth Coordinator, said: “Having our Building Plymouth partners come into Skills Launchpad makes a real difference. People get the chance to speak directly with employers and training providers, ask questions, and understand what the industry is really looking for. Those conversations can often be the first step towards someone starting a new career.”

For us at Skills Launchpad Plymouth, these events highlight just how powerful partnership working can be. By providing a central space where residents can connect directly with employers and training providers, we help open doors to real opportunities and give people the confidence to take positive steps toward their future.
