Aged 16-19 and thinking about working in health and care?

There has never been a more important time for the health and care sector, and there are lots of ways that 16 to 19 year olds can get started in this sector - even if you have never studied health and social care or childcare before.

Here are some top tips:

  1. Drop-in to our Health and Care Job Shop, every Thursday between 12noon-2pm in Barclays in town.

  2. Explore the latest Apprenticeship bulletin here to see what kinds of opportunities exist, what you could earn and where you could work (our next bulletin will be produced later this month)

  3. Check out these e-learning opportunities to see if a longer course in the health and care sector could be for you - On Course South West online courses and Clarion online courses.

  4. Explore short courses that are delivered in person with Achievement Training (they have start dates in March and April) here

  5. Try out a care or youth work Traineeship with Plymouth Training. Click here for details

  6. Contact Achievement Training about this Traineeship as a nursery assistant where you can care for preschool-age children, attending to their daily needs and preparing them for kindergarten.

  7. Take a look at City College Plymouth's open events, to find out about full-time courses in health and social care and childcare starting this September here

  8. You can also study care courses at Discovery College in Honicknowle from September, click here for details. They have an open day coming up on Wednesday 23 March if you want to have a look around.

If you would like to speak to someone about which pathway is best for you, do sign up as a member here to speak with our Youth Hub Coordinator. They will help you to develop a skills action plan to get you where you want to be.
