January's calendar of activities

Connect with Plymouth's growth sectors this New Year:
-
Every Monday in January, those interested in health and social care or childcare opportunities can drop in on a Monday between 10am and 1pm to connect with our coordinator Dan and special guests. ​Each week will feature different employers or training providers, as well as a chance to meet people working in the sector or using the services.

Interested in opportunities in construction and the built environment? Drop in on a Tuesday between 10am and 1pm when our coordinator Gareth will be joined by partners including Focus Training (13 January for a Skills Bootcamp special), JEM Scaffolding (20 January when they will be recruiting for apprentices) and Devon Contractors (27 January for a training and jobs session).

Save the date for the Early Careers Fair! On Saturday 17 January, Building Plymouth and Plymouth Manufacturers Group is teaming up to bring together the city's leading construction and manufacturing businesses at a huge joint apprenticeship, graduate and wider recruitment drive. Between 10am and 2pm at Plymouth Argyle, Home Park, young people, their parents and carers, higher education leavers and recent graduates, as well as adults who are considering a career change, are invited to explore the breadth of careers and the exciting new entrant opportunities available in and around Plymouth for 2026 and 2027 starts.

If hospitality, tourism and retail is your passion, in addition to weekly Friday appointments, our coordinator Rhianne is hosting a Jobs and Training Drop-in on Friday 23 January between 10am and 1pm featuring representatives from City College Plymouth and Discovery College.

Core skills drop-in support - anyone aged 19+ can drop in on Thursday 15 January between 10am and 1pm to connect with support to build English, maths and digital skills, along with improving confidence and employability. Your future starts with strong foundations, don’t miss this chance to invest in yourself! The coordinators will be joined by representatives from On Course South West and the Read Easy charity.

Looking for help with CVs and job applications? Learn about career opportunities at Plymouth City Council, get tips for creating a strong CV and applying through the Council’s system, and discover the wide range of roles available on Wednesday 21 January, when members of the HR team will host a session for adults (aged 25+) from 11am to 12.30pm and young people (aged 16-24) from 1.30pm to 3pm at Skills Launchpad Plymouth. Discover careers in the Reserves - on Thursday 22 January, 10am to 12noon, anyone aged 18+ is invited to join us at Cobourg House to explore the diverse career opportunities available within the Army and Navy Reserves in Plymouth, including the unique benefits of joining the reserves.

Youth Hub support:

The Youth Hub team offer one-to-one appointments for anyone aged 16-24, Monday to Friday. Our coordinators Katie or Helen, are joined each week by DWP Work Coaches who support those claiming Universal Credit; Charlotte from the Virtual School for a dedicated Care Leaver session on a Tuesday; and Hollie from the Kings Trust on a Wednesday and Friday.

On Wednesday 28 January from 1pm to 2.30pm, Mimi and Stu from NeuDICE will be hosting a workshop called 'How to get work as a neurodiverse young person.' Booking is essential. Email Katie and Helen at skillslaunchpad@plymouth.gov.uk to find out more.
