Local construction contractors and consultants are opening major construction sites across Plymouth in March as part of Building Plymouth Open Sites Week tying in once again with National Careers Week 2024.
Building Plymouth is offering a unique chance for local people to see ‘behind-the-scenes’ at ten major ‘live’ construction sites including hospital and heritage projects, the largest local infrastructure project, public realm work in the city centre as well as mobility hubs and university builds. Alongside the construction sites, there is also an opportunity to learn more from the consultants involved in designing these projects with a chance to visit technical/ consultant offices based at the Royal William Yard including architectural practices and engineering consultancy.
Aiming to inspire young people, career changers and job seekers to join the industry, as well as engaging with local residents, Open Sites will showcase how the various buildings and structures are constructed, and the diverse range of skills and careers needed to deliver these projects.
Morven Maclean, Construction Coordinator said:
“Building Plymouth is thrilled to be once again opening the world of live construction sites across the city to schools, university students, military service leavers and job seekers looking to find out more about the fantastic careers in construction and the built environment. The fact that we can tie this in with National Careers Week is the perfect chance to promote the amazing training and employment opportunities that are being created through delivering Plymouth’s biggest capital build in 25 years. We end the exciting week by hosting our Early Careers Fair on Saturday 9 March at Plymouth Argyle and hope that many of those who attend Open Sites feel inspired to then attend our showcase event to meet recruiting employers and take their next steps towards building a career in construction.”
The Building Plymouth Open Sites programme takes place week commencing 4 March 2024 Bookings will be first come first served – to register a single place or group booking (usually up to 15 people but site dependent) please email hello@buildingplymouth.co.uk
