Key national and local construction contractors are opening major construction sites across Plymouth in March 2023 as part of Building Plymouth Open Sites Week tying in with National Careers Week.
Building Plymouth is offering a unique chance for local people to see ‘behind the scenes’ at eight major ‘live’ construction sites including residential projects, the largest local infrastructure project, public realm work in the city centre as well as office and university builds. In order to showcase the wide breadth of careers in construction and the built environment, new for 2023 is the addition of open site visits to technical/consultant offices based at the Royal William Yard and The Millfields including architectural practices and engineering consultancy.
Aiming to inspire young people, career changers, veterans and job seekers to join the industry, as well as engaging with local residents, Open Sites will showcase how the various buildings and structures are constructed, and the diverse range of skills and professions needed on site to deliver these projects.
Morven Maclean, Construction Coordinator said: “Building Plymouth is thrilled to be once again opening the world of live construction sites across the city to schools, university students, veterans and job seekers looking to find out more about the fantastic careers in construction and the built environment. This year we are also working with technical and consultancy businesses to show a different aspect and career choices that are available. The fact that we can tie this in with National Careers Week is the perfect chance to promote the amazing training and employment opportunities that are being created through delivering Plymouth’s biggest capital build in 25 years.”
The Building Plymouth Open Sites programme takes place Monday-Friday, week commencing 6-10 March 2023. Bookings will be first come first served – to register a single place or group booking (usually up to 15 people but site dependent) please email hello@buildingplymouth.co.uk
